From: Ford Styling & Design Ford’s large and more luxurious cars received a major update in early 1956 with the announcement of the Mark II Consul, Zephyr and Zodiac. They were marketed as the ‘Three Graces’ and the definitive pre-production models are pictured within the Briggs presentation facility at Dagenham that was known as the ‘Odeon’. Very few components were transferred over from the Mark I to the Mark II cars, the latter characterised by their smooth shape and lower stance. Along with the new profile and fresh interior appointments there were increases in power, the Consul’s engine having 1,703cc and the Zephyr and Zodiac 2,553cc.

Some members of the send-off party – Horace and Siegfried’s mother Annie, Horace’s wife Peggy, and Siegfried’s wife Gladys – have gone on board. The crane on the opposite bank can be seen more clearly here. Albrecht family archive
