From 'Signalling at Midford S&D' : Class ‘2P’ 4-4-0 No. 40652 and an unidentified BR ‘Standard’ Class ‘5’ regain double track at the end of the single line section from Bath Junction. The train is the 7.40am (SO) Bradford to Bournemouth. The date was unrecorded but must have been the summer of 1959, No. 40652 having transferred to the S&D that year, whilst Midford B Ground Frame and Up siding (here featured) were removed the following spring. In addition to being the author’s favourite colour photograph of Midford, this viewpoint, from Primrose Hill on Twinhoe Lane, was undoubtedly the one which, over several decades, proved to be the most popular amongst those who chose to photograph the S&D in and around this delightful little corner of north Somerset.
