26 June 1872  Application for grant George and Joseph Parsons, Ruardean Hill.  Application declined as it would interfere with existing gales.

30 November 1889  Applying again.  As Paragon and Leather Pits now virtually exhausted there was now no objection.
On Bilson Green, to be worked by a pit.  To work Starkey vein.

31 May 1890  George Hale of Green Bottom had made an application for a grant of a gale in lieu [? line?] of Paragon Pit.  He had a hole made down to the coal on the outcrop and found it was about 77 yards on the east side of Paragon Pit.  Messrs. Parsons application 80 yards on the east side therefore off the coal.  Hale wishes grant made to him.
Grant would include the coal under Hawkwell Tinplate Works.  A.C. Bright wished the coal under to be excluded from the grant.

9 June 1890  Granted to Messrs. Parsons.

28 October 1895  Mr. W.H. Drew enquiring if small lot of iron at Paragate Pit for sale.  Mr. Wilce is offering the engine etc. with buildings at his small colliery.

28 February 1896  Parsons' sub-let colliery to Timothy Wilce of Cinderford - buildings erected by Wilce - engine his property.  No lease for land on which buildings stand - appear to have been on the site of Spero (using Spero shafts?).  Engine house wood and corrugated iron, of little value.  Weighing machine house of stone.

17 October 1898  Letter from Timothy Wilce.....I purchased the Starkey Colliery in April 1894 - met with old workings - pushed on but lost money.  Wishing to give it up.  Had spent over £500.

26 January 1899  Surrendered.
