Saint Vincent

16 April 1844  to James Grindell, senr. of Standfast, for a pit situate at Standfast, in Dark Hill, about 100 yards southward from his house, to get coal from the Upper and Lower Trenchard veins.
NOTE - A license has been granted to dig clay to James Grindell and P.E. Wanklyn from under Saint Vincent Colliery, dated 18 July 1855.

1844  Had opened colliery and found that the coal was no good but wished to work the underlying clay which was suitable for brickmaking.

1853  Freehold of land over the gale to allow erection of brickmaking machinery.

1856  Wanted to let one moiety.

1 December 1857  St Vincent Colliery and Clay Works 'seeking permission to lay down a tramroad to connect with branch to Success Level to connect works with S&W.

Dickin, Flint, Martin and Phelps had been carrying on business and were joint owners of St. Vincent Colliery.  Price £2,997.   £1,998 to Dicken by issue of 999 shares to himself and 999 shares to Flint.  Balance of issue Martin 599 and Phelps 400.  Owen, Musgrove & Eaton one each.

18 April 1905  Whole of shares, except necessary six to keep company alive transferred to Mr. Herbert Martin.  Pit not worked since March 1903 due to lack of capital.  Due to be leased to some Free Miners.

April 1914  Had ceased to carry on business.  Pit, plant and fixtures sold.
20 December 1907  Dean Forest Guardian St. Vincent Colliery 'This company has just been registered with a capital of £3,000 in £1 shares to acquire the business of the St. Vincent Colliery...

5 March 1913  Registered owners St. Vincent Colliery (Forest of Dean) Co. Ltd. - no mention of bricks.
