1841  Thomas Steele of Abergavenny (claiming under a Free Miner) and William Court of Coleford (as a Free Miner) in equal undivided shares to New Road Level in Howlers Slade.

Road already driven, lot will be sold subject to an agreement dated 3 March 1846 to let colliery to Robert and david Mushet for 14 years at £225 per year and 1/- per ton for every ton over 15 per day.

7 June 1859  Liable for forfeiture.  I became, several years ago, mortgagee of one moiety only of the property due to me between £400 - £500.  Person who mortgaged it to me Mr. A. H. Swift who some years ago went to Australia.
Gentleman by name of Jones who is nominal owner.

15 April 1843  Court mortgaged his moiety to Gratrex & Co., Bankers
2 August 1845  Court again mortgaged to Richard James for a debt owing.
December 1846  Steele's hiers sell their moiety to Court
26 March 1852  Gratrex & Co. transfer their mortgage to Roger Bevan, he agreeing to convey it to A. H. Swift on his payment of the principal and interest.
10 January 1853  Court sells to Thos. Poole the moiety purchased from Steele.
27 May 1853  Poole & Swift mortgage a moiety to Patrick
18 October 1853  Swift sells a moiety to George Hennett
18 November 1853  Hennett sells to Edward Bloxsome
28 February 1854  Steele's three sons sell to St. Patrick
22 April 1854  Bevan sells to W.P. Price M.P.

From the above it seems that Steele sells twice.

7 July 1859  St. Patrick to vacate, gale to be re-granted to someone who would then sell it to him.

29 July 1862  St. Patrick agreeing to new galeage rents on Prosper, New Road Level and Speedwell New Bridge.

26 August 1862  Mr. Bloxsome and Mr. Price some interest.

30 August 1862  Mr. Bloxsome 'no interest whatsoever'
Mr. John Jones of Worcester part-owner.
In June 1854 a moiety conveyed to Jones from Swift.

3 March 1873  Mr. Maberly of Worcester lessee of New Road Colliery applying for land to erect Blacksmiths and carpenters shops, cabin and office.  Also possibly a cottage for watchman.
John Jones registered owner.

16 November 1874  The work has been stopped many months.

March 1883  William Holmes of Stroud - having disposed of the New Road Level to Mr. Jas. Meyer Martin of Haverfordwest.

September 1887  No work for 5 years.  Holmes only a lessee.  Registered owner Jones.
Jones had died 1 December 1875, his lease was dated 14 August 1873.

September 1890  No work.

18 October 1890  New Road Level forfeited.

January 1891  A small cabin, or blacksmiths shop; only walls remain.

10 December 1894  Granted to William Dobbs of Mitcheldean Lane End

17 December 1894  George Morgan, John W. Morgan & George A. Morgan in driving a level for Foundry Colliery trespassed into New Road Level gale.  New Road Level to deep of Foundry and in June last a level being driven by Messrs. Morgan struck the coal some 40 yards below the deep boundary of their gale.  Have now driven another level which does virtually same thing. 'They are poor men'.

20 October 1906  Mrs. E. Brown to B. M. Brown.

11 October 1907  Dean Forest Guardian Tenders wanted for Sinking Air Supply Shaft.  Apply Brown & Jones, New Road Colliery Cannop.

1908 Potts Mining Register. Brown & Jones, Cannop nr. Coleford. 14 employed below ground, 3 above.

3 November 1915  No work for 5 years.

9 November 1915  George Jones Colliery proprietor l/h Sunnyside, Coleford.  We are working Hopewell-in-Wimberry, Success No. 2, Foundry No. 2, Hollow Meadow No. 2.

20 November 1917  Not worked.

13 December 1917  Now working Bixslade, Success, Hopewell & Foundry.

September 1919  Gale opened.  Colliery idle from June 1910 to June 1920, very little coal left.

31 December 1924  Surrendered.
