7 February 1843  Granted a gale in unequal parts to Henry James of Whitecroft and George Morris Morse of Yorkley for a pit to the Coleford High Delf, Yorkley and Whittington veins near to the Weslyan Chapel.

18 February 1888 Mining Journal To be sold by auction.  Pillowell Engine Colliery.  A pit sunk on the Pillowell Gale and a drift driven nearly to the Yorkley Coal.

PILLOWELL ENGINE
Pit 11 feet diameter, 66 yards deep, cross measures 240 yards to Yorkley seam.  Buildings:- boiler beds and shaft and engine house.  Plant:- a pair of fifteen-and-a-half inch winding engine, 2 excelsior pumps, pit frames and pully, 2 boilers, ropes, rails etc.
