15 January 1846  By indenture of 17 Ocober 1845 between the Revd. John Birt of Oldham Lancs., baptist minister and Susanna his wife of the first part.  Thomas Nicholson of Lydney second part and William Nicholson of Coleford, shopkeeper, third part.
It is witnessed that in consideration of the sum of £250 paid by Thomas Nicholson to John and Susanna Birt then all that one undivided part in Hopewell and three forty-eights of Potlid and all his shares in New Found Out will be conveyed to Nicholson and his hiers.

Nicholson, Coal Merchant, Dealer and Chapman under a petition in the Court of Bankruptcy first part; Edward Mant Miller of Bristol, official assignee under the petition second part; the said Thomas Nicholson third part; John Trotter Thomas of Winnalls Hill Coleford, fourth part; and Arnold Thomas of the same place fifth part; all those parts once held by Birt conveyed by the first three parts to John Trotter Thomas

14 May 1873  Memorial of an indenture dated 15 February 1873 between the Revd. John Hinton, Eliza Hinton his wife (dissenting minister from Bristol) and Tom Goold.  Hinton entitled to one twelfe of Wimberry or Hopewell Level, one quarter of thirteen equal undivided forty-eigth parts in Potlid and one twenty-fourth of New Found Out.  All conveyed to Tom Goold.

Result seems to be that two-thirds of gale belongs with the representatives of the original persons and that of the remaining third one twelfth belongs to S.J. Thomas or his representatives and two thirds to Tom Goold.

1894  Output:  1,187 tons (Aston), 3,966 tons.

21 November 1904  Crown trying to trace representatives of Mary Ann Teague, Ann Denison and Sarah Birt - all dead many years.

26 February 1910  G.H. Jones applying for a tramway to Edge End.  Crown not confident coal will turn out well.  Abandoned some 20 years ago being of inferior quality.  Milsom Hamblin made a similar application in 1907.

24 January 1935  Mr. G.H. Jones who originally held all of gale sold a portion on 14 February 1913 and took it back in 1931 but this was not registered.
Jones had now left the district, his sons were working Bixslade.
