16 April 1844  Granted to Thomas Webb of Five Acres for a pit at Blackthornís Farm, near Shortstanding, the property of Edward Machin Esq., in land occupied by Mrs. Knight, 120 yards west of the turnpike road leading from Coleford to English Bicknor, to get coal from upper and lower Trenchard veins.  Bounded on land side by deep workings of Bicknor Sink Level and Powellís Colliery.
