Gorbrook

1841 Joseph Roberts, of Abergavenny (as claiming through or under Free Miners)
Coal in the Hill Delf vein, lying in the land of Gorbrook Level and extending northwards to Addis Hill Colliery

GRO 25 August 1836  Indenture made between Joseph Roberts, Gloucester, Gentleman; and John Probert, Old Radnor, Gentleman.
For securing the payment of £400 to Lindsey Winterbotham Joseph Roberts did grant and demise unto Henry James Selfe of Lincolns Inn all that colliery called Gorbrook Level with the two shafts or pits.  Lease for 2,000 years.

24 December 1859  Gloucester Journal  Sale by Auction by James Karn at King’s Head, Littledean on 30 January 1860.  Gorbrook Colliery situated at Edgehills, 40 acres Hill Delf, average thickness 4 ft.- coal worked by a level and a barrier of 10 ft. required to be left by the proprietor of Prosper Colliery.

5 April 1904  Joseph Lodge, Lydbrook applying for a grant

30 May 1905  Granted

10 February 1908  Lodge had died, left colliery to his two daughters, one married a Mr. Lewis.  Gale practically valueless

8 June 1915  Application for regrant Amos Morgan,  however, gale had not been forfeited.  This was done on 11 August and Morgan then re-applied

8 March 1920  Amos Morgan and E.A. Worthy to surrender.  Morgan had sold the gale to Worthy (see Addis Hill above) but the purchase was never completed
The intention to surrender was then withdrawn

11 April 1921  Conveyance Amos Morgan to Albert Jones (see Harrow Hill below)

30 June 1924  Conveyance J.P. Emett, trustee in bankruptcy of estate of A. Jones, to the Wigpool Coal & Iron Co. Ltd.

15 April 1926  Not worked for five years
October 1933   Not worked for five years.  Held by Ivo Baldwin for last two years.  Baldwin took over with other gales from the Wigpool Co.  Working in Addis Hill and Newbridge Engine to the deep of Gorbrook.  Gorbrook only a narrow strip.

8 November 1936  Surrendered
