From 'Stoke Works Pt 3 1914-1927': In the Wagon Shop in 1921, where wagon repairs and rebuilding are being carried out. In the foreground is a 2-plank dropside wagon, built to Diagram 5, receiving a full repair of the bodywork including floor and ends; the centrally mounted buffer springs can just be seen, as can a selection of the hand tools on which wagon repair relied. Behind that, in the centre left of the picture, is No. 3430, an elderly 2-plank fixed side wagon which is receiving attention to the floor, or possibly the buffer springs beneath. No. 3430 dated from the 1880s and was equipped with grease axle boxes and a single brake block on the far side only. Next in line is a 3-plank, built to Diagram 3, the entire body of which appears to have been renewed. Built in the early 1890s, the rounded ends helped water run off the tarpaulin when sheeted up and covering a load. Beyond, by the far wall, can be seen a wagon with a later pattern sheet rail in the raised position. To the right are two further similar 2- plank wagons, followed by a cattle wagon built to Diagram 10, and an 8-ton van, built to Diagram 4, both constructed in the late 1890s. Basil Jeuda collection
