1 March 1841  Thatched Pit.  Mr. John Lewis.  High Delf.
Raised by: one horse whim.
Depth of pits: 66 yards.
How disposed of: Country sale.
Daily quantity raised: 8 tons a quarter being lime coal.
At 300 days annually: 2,400 tons.
Amount per ton including royalty: 9d.
Amount annually: £90 0s. 0d.
Buildings: A lodge and shed.

19 February 1892  Mr. Shadrach Hughes, Mitcheldean Lane End,reminded that a lease of land dated 20 September 1862 was due to expire.  Wished to renew, was held by his father S. Hughes.

1 June 1899  Crown could not get dead rent owing from Messrs. Hughes Bros. c/o Albert Hughes, Speedwell Colliery, Five Acres.

26 June 1899  Mrs. E. Hughes, widow of late William Hughes, lets and receives rent on the property.  Widow with nine children, colliery closed four months before her husband died as it was not paying.  Idle since 14 December 1896.  She was working a small colliery leased by her husband but the works were flooded through January and February.  Speedwell Colliery, also had a share in Found Out Colliery.  Wishing to give up Thatch.

24 July 1899  There are several open pits upon the gale but mostly fenced off.  Registered owners:- Albert Hughes, Five Acres; Shadrach Hughes, Mile End; Emily Hughes, Lower Berry Hill, representative of William Hughes deceased.
Mrs. Hughes had money, the others did not, she had paid all the previous years rental.

3 January 1900  To be forfeited for non-payment of dead rent, this was arranged with Mrs. Hughes.
The gale was not surrendered as the other two registered owners would not join in.

15 April 1912  Conveyance Shadrach Hughes and Albert Hughes to Amos William Brown of two undivided fourth parts.

19 November 1914  Amos Brown sold all of his interest to Emily Hughes of Dryslade Farm, English Bicknor.

5 March 1920  Had commenced to re-open.

13 November 1924  Working by a slope with a tramway to the road.

31 March 1927  Conveyance William Hughes to Edward Hughes.

17 June 1927  Conveyance Annie L. Hughes to Edward Hughes.

8 May 1931  Edward Hughes committed suicide.

3 August 1932  Auction at Angel Hotel, no bid.

Edward Hughes estate - coal supplied to Mr. Smith, coal merchant, Stroud.
Mrs. Emily Hughes only part owner, one tenth, as portions went to the nine children.  In her lifetime only.

10 December 1932  Sale at Thatch - vertical boiler, winding engine by Irvine & Co., wire hawser, 280 yards steel rails as laid, 23 wood trams, 20 pairs tram wheels, G.I. Engine shed and store sheds etc.

7 October 1933  Bought by Stanley and Thomas Adams for £25 plus £14 16s. 1d. rent due on gale.  Stanley Adams, machinest, Berry Hill; Thomas Adams, collier, Berry Hill.
