29 August 1863   Cornelius and John Brain application for grant.

8 August 1864  Granted to John Brain of Ruardean Hill, situate 160 yards from the Speech House and 16 yards northwards from the Speech House - Cinderford road, to get the coal from the Coleford High Delf vein and any other veins lying underneath the Churchway High Delf coal.  To be called ´The Alexandra Colliery´.
Problems with sinking a shaft down to these deep seams through the overlying gales as in the case of the Great Western Deep Coal Co.
Depth to coal nearly 500 yards.

17 March 1866  Deep coal in Alexandra and Central Collieries.

17 July 1871  Forfeited.

December 1874  Printed circular from Ephraim Brain and Richard Cook re hardship brought upon them by the forfeiture of the gale which they had legally purchased from John Brain.  Had paid Crown three years dead rent amounting to £600.  Wanted to raise money to take the matter through the courts.

4 March 1893  Parkend Deep Navigation giving six months notice to relinquish.  New Alexandra.

5 May 1911  Sidney Elsom applying for the re-grant on behalf of Trustees who have agreed to dispose of the gale to the Lydney & Crump Meadow Collieries Co. Ltd.

10 July 1911  Granted this Monday.
